I don't know that Vista will be all that great. Seems more like Microsoft is playing catch-up to MacOS and Linux (especially the eye-candy). Personal opinion though.

I downloaded Vista Beta 2 onto my laptop. It's GUI is very impressive but I prefer Mac OS X more. It's almost capable of doing what XP is doing. My Ubuntu Linux supports more hardware than Vista does than. But this is just the Beta 2. I am still deciding whether to get it or not. Doesn't seem that much of a big deal. Though, I am not a big fan of Windows neither.

'Not neither' is twice negating so that means you're a big fan of Windows.
Maybe you meant 'either'.

With 7 years of useless software patches followed by complete abandonment. :p

They've got the world by the balls and they know it. The only reason for requiring all these OS upgrades is to keep the rest of the world from giving up on MS and going to Linux or Mac. I think of MS as just another GM.

Vista will have a couple cool features, but it will have a lot of unnecessary bulk. We keep getting newer and faster hardware, and MS keeps coming out with more and more bulky software for it, so our computers never really run any faster hahah

What new features are you looking forward to?

Has DX10 build into the OS, the GUI is better (but at a cost of performance, so a win lose situation), better searching tool, couple other little things... I guess that's it lol... nothing to make me switch anytime soon haha

EDIT: Some additional thoughts... I think Vista is gonna suck for the average computer user. To run this thing with all the new features, you need a decent processor, 1 GB ram, and a 128 MB graphics card... that is fucked up. I can run Fedora Core 5 with half those specs and my GUI is just as impressive. Most of the people that I know that don't play video games will not have a computer that will have specs to meet this, so there is no point in them getting Vista. MS needs to add useful features to their OS, not just a shit load of eye candy to make you have to buy a new computer.

Only too true. I was looking in some magazine yesterday, and they had a chart of computers capable of running Vista and running Vista with Aero. Vista itself won't be quite as bad (in terms of min sys req) but Aero eliminated all but like 15-20% of desktops sold today... and can anyone say bloat? 15 GB for the OS?? (well, it says 40GB HD, w/ 15GB free...)

Vista sys reqs

EDIT: just looking through the sys reqs, the 2 desktops my family use can't run aero (32 and 64MB of video mem, and only 1 of them has 1 GB RAM); my laptop won't qualify (nor will my dad's); and my desktop will only squeak past on the RAM and video...

I wouldn't download Vista even if it were free. You know in the end Microsoft will just find a way to screw you.
