Help is voluntary. You got two civil responses right away. You then bitched about their inadequacy, you, the master of inadequate, trash responses. You weren't content to just bicker with me, you've alienated others as well. You have let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird ass. You have floored the accelerator of your tongue without engaging the clutch of your brain. Someone once said, "A fool opens his mouth and his secret is out." If they didn't, they should've.

Welcome to the forums. I hope you can contribute as well as profit from them, as we all try to do.

Actually, he did not imply that; he stated it quite explicitly (maybe you missed it, which supports his statement). In his first post, he said

Seems pretty clear to me. Sure, there was some additional information you may or may not understand, and you may or may not consider it extraneous, but he clearly answered you in the first statement of his post. Then you come along with a statement like this:

What the hell's up with that? Maybe I'm just thick, but I don't see how it can get much simpler than 'just stating things'.

For what it's worth - and ignoring the various personal comments - I just finished up a course from 'ed2go'. Offered by a 'real' (brick-and-mortar, recognized, accredited) college in Idaho, it was the best $89 I've ever spent. Instructor teaches you on-line, at your own pace (pretty much) - a new lesson and assignment/quiz every Wed and Fri for 6 weeks followed by the only graded test, a final. Printing out the quizzes and final and working through those off-line it was still a challenge - but an excellent course for anyone who wants to learn Perl.

Highly recommended. Email/post a question here if you'd like further information.

Check out the 'Ed2Go' website - if you can't find it, let me know and I'll dig up the url. They offer, through Boise State University (a real, accredited school in Idaho) an $89 Perl course that will teach you exactly what you wanted to learn! They even give you, free, a special Perl interpreter/Apache/cgi-bin setup that installs in it's own directory, doesn't interfere with another Apache, and which is used for all the assignments including web forms, pages, etc. It's a terrific course - just finished it two weeks ago and was able to solve a pretty knotty problem yesterday using what I'd learned.

Course is on-line, runs 6 weeks with 2 new lessons/assignments/quizzes each week. The only graded test is the final - and you can print it out before you answer it to check your answers (highly recommended procedure - I did so and still missed one question on it!!!)

Good luck!

Tom

we merged a new learning perl thread with this one. That is why the original post is older then some of the newer stuff.

DaWei, no, I'm not "spamming" - I have absolutely no interest whatsoever, just trying to answer a question. As to the multiple answers - which you seem to consider to be 'spam' - check out the Administrator's note below yours - they were to two different threads which ended up merged.

Can I ask why the attitude? All I did was attempt to contribute and answer a question based on my 40+ years in the IT business and my recent experience with what I think is a good beginning course in Perl.

Chill, my friend - your stress level is way too high.
