It won't work. Sure, you might be able to force US companies to stop sending spam to a list of email addresses, but good luck persuading the Chinese to do the same thing.

It may be counter productive. They say they will give the e-mail addresses to the spammers and tell them not to send any spam. Spammer will get more e-mail addresses that way. You may receive more spam. That's just my thinking.

Indeed. Validated email addresses (i.e. addresses that are KNOWN to have a person reading them) are as precious as gold to spammers and (just as significantly) to the people who build a database of addresses for them.

That's one reason that one of the rules of combatting spam is to NEVER respond to a spam email. The act of asking to be removed from a mailing list is telling the spammer that your address is one that will be read by a human.
