Need help coming up with mnemonic for command processing
Hi,
I'm trying to come up with a mnemonic device in terms of a phrase for remembering the 9 steps of Linux command processing. In case you don't know what I mean, a phrase used to remember the 7 layers of the OSI reference model in networking is "All People Seem To Need Data Processing". The first letter of each word represents a layer in the model. Anyways, the 9 steps of command processing are: Token splitting Alias substitution Tilde substituion Command substitution Parameter expansion Wildcard expansion Quote processing I/O redirection Execution So far I can come up with "Today's Air Traffic Controllers Play With" and then I'm stuck on Q, I and E. Does anyone have any suggestions? You can even create a new one as long as it's "easy" to remember. Last edited by aznluvsmc; Jan 17th, 2006 at 5:47 PM. |

...or an anti-rote-learning one:
Training And Testing Can Provide (us) With Quite Ignorant Engineers This reminds me of a game I used to play during my mis-spent youth called Acronymania; it was actually quite fun. You try to come up with alternative expansions for acronyms; e.g. PCMCIA: People Can't Memorise Computer Industry Acronyms MCSE: Minesweeper Consultant, Solitaire Expert Once you get the obvious ones out the way, the game can be quite amusing. Or maybe I just didn't have a life when I was 16, and I'm still searching... |
