Google Search Engine Optimization

I've tried googling it, and all I find are paid services to get your site higher on google. I don't think this is that important of an investment, since the logic seems quite simple. I'm wondering if any of you have any tips or tricks to share.

Spread the wealth.

My site can only be found on google under very specific keywords unfortunately: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...cking%22&meta=

Searching for "o2jam score tracking" also works, but that just gives you people's links to my site. Unless you put it in quotes, then my site's the first I think...

So yeah, I believe it's very important, since my community's still fairly small. Maybe you could look at my source and suggest changes to the meta tags, and maybe keywords I could fit into the body? The ideal result is getting it in the top 3 for "o2jam scoring" or "o2jam rankings" or the best being just "o2jam".

Google works on which sites link to you, and their tags, not just yours. Try trading links with sites with the same interests.

You could submit your website to many other search engines which accept it for free.

And may, for some search engines, you could include meta tags for robots to follow the pages.

Errm. Look what's there.

I used meta tags, I'm asking for additional things to add to them or tweak them.

And my site's URL is already on approximately 50-100 other sites. I'm guessing you didn't look. It's very well advertised with my forum image and referral reward links. Searching "o2jam score tracking" will bring up maybe 10-20 of these sites that link to mine.

Generally speaking, I find several things work:
1. Use valid HTML.
2. Look at it with no stylesheets and text-only, and see if it's easy to mentally parse.
3. Put O2Jam in the title might help as well.

Ahh, the title tag. Completely forgot about its importance. Thanks for the tip.

And by the way, the site's already valid xhtml 1.0 all around.

Yeah, I found out one big problem was my keywords were seperated with ',' instead of ';'. How come no one told me? =/ No one actually looked at my source? Oh well...

Having a robots.txt file on your server helps search bots to walk thru the site. Look at
http://www.searchengineworld.com/rob...s_tutorial.htm for a tutorial. (I have one on my site to tell the bot where not to go.)

Search engines don't pay attention to the keywords meta tag any more. People just used to fill them with "porn;xxx;sex;lesbians"... you get the picture.
