Help with Transparency!

Hello,
I have my client and engine. So I began to recruit some pixel artists and designers.
My lead pixel artist asked me if we have transparency, or Alpha Channel!
According to him it is something to do with how things look and if we don't have it there will be a problem, it is mainly for glass and shadows etc.
Any help?
Thanks.

It is, judging from what your designer said,
Quote:

It would be for window effects, minimizing methods, maximizing, mouse hovering over buttons, etc.. I'm not positive though. You could implement it a ton of different ways, as a designer it would be your job to find out. As for help finding out different ways to implement it, You will probably need a book because it sounds like something you won't find on the internet or something anyone would be willing to teach without a price.

An alpha channel allows the opacity of an object to be changed.

This allows transparent objects and the like. Shouldn't it already be included in director?

On flash, when you select an object, there is a slider for the alpha channel, director should have similar.
