Java Noob

Hello from Greece.

I decided to look into java cause i want to make my own card game on the web. Could anybody tell me where to start from? I also wonder if i can make custom cards. I recently got Borland Jbuilder. Do you think it'll be good for what i want it for?

Thanks in advance.

why not use Macromedia Flash instead, if that's all you want to do with Java?

I mean, Java Applets are great and you can do so much with it but as bae said, if you just wanna do that with Java, why not go with Flash, I am a Java-Fanatic! I mean, its gonna take time to learn Java, especially if you high demands on what to do with the language once you get a good knowledge of it! I agree with bae on this, go with Flash, you get it done faster and learn probably a little bit less!

I never thought of it. However it would be a god chance to get into java. is A multiplayer card game online achievable with flash? I mean, on the same movie while i can see my cards, others cannot (the usual thing). How can that be done in flash?

Oh, I thinking about when you want to just have the user play by himself/herself. If you want to use have games (et Yahoo, MSN). But still MSN games, use Flash to make their games and Yahoo games are made with Java. Surf those sites and see which type of games and layout you prefer to make yourself. Get back to us! Go on MSN games and Yahoo games!

yeah b/c me and my girlfriend play Solitare Showdown, on MSN Messenger all the time! Hey if you want to knock it this goal out with Java, by all means, I'll help ya out if you need but its gonna take a while when you even touch base doing networking with Java. I personally thing, with a few good books, a couple of downloads and people like us on this forum, you will be able to get it done!

Java is a great language...fairly simple to understand with some time and practice...if you want to get into programming this is a good time to start...and you will elarn a hell of a lot more about programs and their structure in general. I say go for it and if you ever get stumped check back for help
