Additonal forums?

I am a recent migrant from the DevShed (as are a number of other newbies here) and there were a couple of other forums that I frequented and wonder if the admins here think they may be useful additions:

Business -- suggestions on starting, managing, making profitable, etc. business (with an obvious emphasis on web-based businesses); how to structure agreements, etc. Perhaps not totally in keeping with the title "Programming Forums".

SQL/Databases -- help with queries (I have expertise in MSSQL and Sybase), schema design, etc. Since quite a few applications depend on database interaction, I think this topic fits well within the "Programming Forums" paradigm.

Security -- bigger than just secure programming (which is a natural fit for "Programming Forums"), security starts with the initial design.

These were rather low-traffic forums at DevShed (probably average 2 posts per day), but particularlly the SQL/database forum should be a good fit here.

And, let's face it, they're gonna get more posts than Ada and LISP, aren't they?

Good idea mitakeet, I don't know that much about business yet so I when that comes I'll be sure to look around.

I support mitakeets suggestions; I tend to lurk in database and security forums for my learning purposes, although I rarely contribute to them.

Another suggestion is a group of forums concerned with operating system issues (installation, OS specific programming, etc). Obvious candidates for forums within that group would be windows and linux; personally I am also interested in some others for which demand would be lower (eg BSD variants, RTOS's [particularly VxWorks and Greenhills Integrity]); you may wish to hold off on those ones and see if there is demand to justify them.

The description of the C++ forum currently includes sockets. C++, like C, has nothing to do with sockets. You may wish to break networking programming (which sockets is a part of) into a forum of its own. That will prevent C/C++ people being bored by discussion of sockets and stuff, while avoiding the need for people seeking help with network basics to wade through C/C++ discussions they don't care about. People who are interested in both (like myself) can choose to look at multiple forums.

yeah definately SQL should have it's own forum and security too (as long as it doesn't get into black-hat hacking).

Just because several of us are from DevShed, I see no reason to turn this board into DevShed II. The number and type of discussion boards are currently about right -- if this site starts getting a lot more hits/traffic/questions then the admins can think about redesigning and/or adding new boards.

I agree with Ancient Dragon... you guys should "feel at home" here without a necessity for random changes as soon as you join. I'm sure PFO administrators can add forums at their discretion when they see the demand for them...
