jsp???

in my prev q i asked:

what are the advantages for using php over perl/cgi (and vice versa)
is there really much of a difference?

i appreciate all the replies but i yet have another question.

what are the dis/advantages of JSP???
isn't it supposed to be a graphical language(java)?
then why is it doing work that php can do?
is this efficient?

best regards

It's easier. PHP is embedded into your webpages, so you can do something like this:

<html>
<head>
<title>Test page</title>
</head>
<body>
<?php print "Hello World"; ?>
</body>
</html>
Perl/CGI isn't so convinient

#!/usr/bin/perl
print "<html>\n";
print "<head>\n";
...
PHP's also tends to be easier to set up. Most web hosting companies support it without any need to fiddle with permissions or configuration files. Finally, PHP is faster than straight Perl/CGI (mod_perl is probably faster than PHP, but mod_perl is quite a bit more complex).

Java can do a lot of things. Unlike PHP, which is really only used for websites, Java is used in mobile phones, desktop applications and on webservers. Java has some very good website frameworks, and can work well for designing large websites (though personally I prefer Ruby). PHP is less structured, but is faster to implement.

If you're new to programming server-side web applications, I suggest PHP.

right, if you're new go php. I've been looking into JSP a little bit and it's very powerful. Kinda slow on initial page loads because it compiles everything, but it's just as fast as anything else after that. It's imperitive that you learn something easier, like PHP, then move to java, then to JSP later on if you want
