A2 Computing Language (Database)
I'm starting A2 Computing in September and have already been told to think about our project work.
As an amateur (but not complete beginner) programmer I've decided to do a database with a website front end, something along the lines of the College/Uni intranets you see (like http://my.nhc.ac.uk). I don't have a client yet, but that's not hard to sort out/make up. To give me a bit of a head start I'm going to brush up on the programming over the summer. Just wondering what languages I'll need, so I can get the books in. I was thinking SQL, but when I went to buy, I saw some Oracle ones that seemed to cover similar topics? Any help would be much appreciated. Ours is done in JSP, which I already have books for but think that might be a little out of my league (or maybe the whole project is? Any comments, I mean, it's not going to be overly complicated.) |

I would advise using PHP and either MySQL or PostgreSQL as a database management system. And by the way, I would advise against making a client up - your teacher has to sign something stating your client does actually exist, and they may not want to due to legal reasons if he doesn't.
