Programming *GASP*
I am almost 15 and I have been programming for about 2 months, (Used to do mIRC for about 2 years, but that doesn't count) My signature is self-explanatory to what I want to learn. How long would it take me to learn these languages? Would I need to blow the bugdet to acomplish this goal? Am I wasting time with Programming? Please post, thanks in advance!

Oh maybe 40 or 50 years Seriously, you will probably graduate from collete before you know all those languages well MySQL doesn't take very long at all to learn -- mainly learning how to administer SQL databases, the SQL query language, and how to wrote stored procedures. You will probably learn most of that in a month or so, depending on how fast you learn. The others aren't all that difficult to learn the basics either, but the real kicker is how to use the languages to develop solutions to problems. Don't try to learn them all at the same time, if you do they will just get too confusing because there are lots of similarities among the languages. |

Re: Programming *GASP*
This brings up so many questions I don't even know where to begin.
Why are you trying to learn programming, what do you hope to get out of it, define wasting your time, in relation to doing what? |

Re: Programming *GASP*
I would suggest learning HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and MySQL first, mainly because web development is rewarding and fun. After you know how to utilize all of the above you could start learning some Python.
This is the path I took into programming listed in order. |

Re: Programming *GASP*
Learning programming is a lifelong task -- one never stops learning because there are always new ways to write programs being developed every year. Don't get the idea that there will come a time when you can say "I know all there is to know", because it won't ever happen. No matter how much you know there is always something else to learn.

Re: Programming *GASP*
The important thing to note about programming has nothing to do with which technology you use, and why you use it.
Programming is a way of thinking, although programming could also be described as your ability to describe solutions to problems using a formal language. |

Re: Programming *GASP*
Well, I view programming as fun; its something that can add to my knowledge and enjoy. Programming is based on making a program that is better than your previous program and so on if you consult programming as fun. Its something for me to do and as I said it is fun! I like to learn new things and build upon what I know.
