Hi Everyone, I Need Help!

Hi everyone. Well, I do not know any programming knowledge at all. I am only here for reference and help, because yall are awesome. I work for runecrypt.com - a fansite for runescape.com

And anyway, I need a little help. I was hoping you could help me.

Well, our rival website - zybez.net has become a great success, but we need something that will sweep them off their feet and bring all of their members crawling towards us. And if you help, you will receive all of the credit and will be thanked by thousands (50,000+) of teenagers (average age that plays runescape [runescape.com]). And most likely receive at least 100 dollars.

They have an item database that is the main influence of why people visit their site, but I was wondering if there was any way that we could take their database one step further and somehow make it where its in a flash or java window (again...im dumb at programming) and be able to search, report errors, and do everything that their item database does but in one (pop-up screen would be nice) screen, and... all-around cooler.

And if you have any other idea for something that would totally own zybez.net, post here please.

Anyway, I would love any help I can get and I am proud to be in the presence of such amazing programmers.

Welcome to the community. You surely seem to have made up for the lack of programming knowledge with a truckload of BS factor. Reckon it's an even trade?

Don't worry about DaWei. Look into SQL. Wikibooks (I hate wikimedia but I recommend it sometimes) has a good introduction to the language. Java Applets are a pain, you can do some cool things with PHP with alot more ease.

You can do crazy things with JavaScript these days. I recently saw a web OS written entirely in JavaScript. Yahoo! gives a way a lot of very nice free JavaScript UI components too. While JavaScript would probably be the most difficult to language to program a web UI in, it is probably the most powerful.

Re: Hi Everyone, I Need Help!

Just like any other language - to learn it properly you must live, breathe, sweat and dream code.

I'm not sure anyone here will be willing to write code FOR you, but I'm sure we can all help if you endeavor to learn how to code, as DaWei points out so well in other threads like this - this is a software _DEVELOPMENT_ community, we are not a free software depot.

As for your site, you should be looking along the lines of community oriented competitions, and interactivity between users.

One wonders how much the most beautiful Javascript will help when Javascript is disabled. But, hell, there I go, being negative again.

Re: Hi Everyone, I Need Help!

But then using any technology that is client side is the same - Google GEARS, Adobe AIR, Flash, JavaScript even the playing of media formats quicktime, media player.. propitiatory codecs..

One also wonders how well all these technologies would help when not supported..
