Well, we've all scene the debates. What does everyone think about the fact that we're banning religious scenes such as the manjor scene from schools and other public venues. What do you think about banning christmas caroling with references to Christ.

My opinion is that it is completely insane. I mean, it's a Christian's holiday, and in the country we have the right to celebrate that. The Jews celebrate their holiday, the Muslims theres and so forth, but you don't see Christians trying to ban and nullify the meaning of the holiday.

I think that if a Christian like myself wants to run through the halls of my school singing Christmas carols because I'm excited for Christmas, I think that I should have that right.

Maybe it offends me when people use the word "and" so let's ban it from the English dictionary. There is always something that offends somebody, and it wouldn't be America if we covered it up. I just hope this county doesn't go as far as to removing the true meaning of Christmas from being displayed in public. If that happens, who knows what is next, and then our county will really go to hell.

I'm curious to see everyone's opinion, just remember to keep it friendly.

Society in general is ass backwards. Who defines normality, furthermore who has the right to define my environment.

Christmas is as CHRISTmas holiday... although my gf tells me it was stolen from the Pagans.

Any how, I'm all about free speech... so is the constitution for that matter. In my opinion, the American people and the politicians that create these otherwise horrendously stupid laws should spend their time and the tax payers money more wise debates on something that will have a wider and larger impact.

<rant> For instance, the war and supplying the troops with armored vehicles... or withdrawing them and carpet bombing the entire country (which is my personal favorite). If we are going to pay to rebuild Iraq, damn it... destroy it first and give a reason for us to pay to have it rebuilt... otherwise spend the money on schools and proper education in our homeland. </rant>

Yeah, despite what many say, our society has become almost too sensitive. We gripe about acceptance and understanding and the desensitizing nature of games and music and whatnot, but then jump at absolutely any chance we get to take offense at something, often bring in the law for defense. Quite frankly, I think it's gotton rather ridiculous.

As for Christmas, your Grandad was probably right Recursion, at least in part. The basic idea for the holiday, the celebration of Christ's birthday, is definitely a Christain thing. Many elements though were taken from Pagan holidays. The Chirstmas Tree for example was originally the Pagan yule log burned durring winter. Even the whole celebrating in winter thing was probably Pagan alone since Christ was most likely born in late Spring or early Summer instead of early Winter. The whole Santa Clause thing on the other hand was borrowed from somewhere else entirely, though I can't really remember where...

The constitution and our government was based on the basis of religious FREEDOM and freedom from RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION. Somehow i believe banning any religion's celebration of anything is a violation of that as long as its not killing somebody or smoking crack in the schools...

I feel that people just need to relax and stop worrying about what they're being exposed to. According to the numbers nobody that grew up in the 60's to the 80's should have never made it out of child hood. Let people make there own mistakes and stop sheltering them from every little thing.

People should just try to put up with each other and let it be, I interact with people of all religions and every race/skin colour you could imagine every week and we all get on fine.

They are building a mosque near my house...now they have a guy screaming over a loudspeaker 3 times a day, 7 days a week, their argument is that 'we have to put up with your christians bells'...but thats once a day one a week...but what about those of us who don't follow a specific religion, why must we live with this on-going noise and fighting all the time...OK I don't mind the bells and the carols, they sound nice but the whining on that damned loudspeaker is horrible, but I'll let them do it and we can just get used to it, or go somewhere else, there is no need to fight and cause trouble.

I agree completely with every post to my parent post.

The governent is using a loophole in the freedom of religion clause and instead using seperation of church in state. How do you feel about this.

40 seconds, go.

Well as I see it public schools are a government institution so technically any faculty member cant embrace nor say no to anyone celebrating a holiday. That doesnt mean the students can't start gathering and praying or even singing at least as long as it's not disruptive to the schoolday.
