Two weeks ago, I started a project with the designers of thedesignforums.com, The plan was to make it a skinnable shell replacement. So far it's going well, and if the code gets a little more understandable I might consider making it open source.
You can learn more on the V site: http://tierro.thedesignforums.com/V/ I'll tell what's in there at the moment: - The upper panel contains some shortcuts and a dropdown menu. - The lower panel contains all the running tasks - Every single element is skinnable - The desktop also shows thumbnails of images and videos, unlike Windows and Gnome (As far as I know) - Dynamic tooltips - I named them Hovercrafts. When you hover your mouse over an icon for a moment, on of these will pop up and shows a preview in case of multimedia, if desired - Intelligent icon sizing - IE Based tabbed browsing - Easy filetype management - Primitive control panel - Very cool extensively tested (some members thevistaforums and thedesignforums have tested it) dropdown mediaplayer. What's coming up soon or later: - A cubed desktop - Any of your ideas? If you want to see screenshots, visit the site mentioned above. I'll upload some new screenies tonight. Let me know what you think , Tierro

Re: Project V
Oh, C++ will be very helpful. Very much so. If you really want speed look into Assembly. Warning: you will be put off it in two weeks.

Re: Project V
Try two hours. I wouldn't advise it, anyway: you're much more likely to screw things up than actually improve things. The tradeoff with lower-level languages is your time vs. computer time - I'd argue that your time is more important. You could probably justify rewriting part of it in C++, but I doubt you could say the same for Assembly.

Re: Project V
Always handy uknow
, not sure for what tho...Even though I told about Project V here, I'm not sure if I can allow you to test it, I'm sorry for that. It might not've been so smart to tell it here anyway - tdf offered me a secure server place for this... If you want to learn more about this and you want to try this app, you can sign up to thedesignforums.com

Re: Project V
Sorry, anything to do with micro controllers and assembly, I think is cool.

I've been careful considering publishing apps on the web the last few months - I like the idea about knowing where my software is.
