Question MySQl simple problem

Hello All

I just downloaded and installed MySQl and am having a slight problem:

I went through the detailed setup and was never asked to set a root password or user and now when i open up the MySQL command line i am prompted to enter a root password. I tried just pushing enter and it exited.

The Details:

MySQl 4.1 for windwos Xp Pro SP2 (i used the windows X86 zip/installer file)

Detailed Setup Details:

Developer Machine
Multifunction Database (Both InnoDb and MyIsam)
InnoDb path \MySql InnoDB Datafiles\
Decission Support (DSS) / OLAP (20 concurrent connections assumed)
Disabled TCP/IP
Standard Character Set
Do not install as a windows service
Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH

At this point it says push execute to execute ......
and it finishes ok

Nowhere am I prompted to enter a root password or user

I know when I installed MySQL that it was like a normal install process for a program and during one of the windows I was prompted for a root password as well as what kind of MySQL Server it would be like an up and running or developing machine. I would uninstall it and reinstall it again to try and have different results, if need be let me know and I'll install it myself and make you something you can work off of.

Update:

I uninstalled MySQl 4.1 and installed 5 (5.027 i think) and when the configuration thingy (for lack of a better word) came up i applied all the same settings as before, (except i chose strict mode) if i deselected create as service, i was not prompted to enter a root password, when i did select create as service i was prompted to create a root password.

You can always change the root password from within MySql if need be.

Did you use msi packages to install, if you didnt than go and download the windows installer packages from MysqlAb. There is a configuration utitlity there that you can use to reconfigure your settings. But i had some problems with it couse it didnt apply the setting because my antivirus was on, so disable your antivirus software and retry.
