O.o...

Jesus Christ. The upgrades for windows are usually $50 US. And the basic home is like $100. How can they believe that anyone will buy that? If anything, they're just promoting more piracy of their product. It's an incredibly stupid thing to do, have a monopoly on a market and then jack up the price, because that calls in lots of complaints and possibly even legal intervention.

TLDR: I hope those are fake or Canadian Dollars (Though It's still expensive.)

XP Pro (full) is supposed to retail for $279 in the US. That puts Ultimate somewhere around $319ish, and it drops from there. Home Basic (upgrade) would be $99, is my guess. So the damage isn't incredibly bad, but it still seems a little on the high side.

I wouldn't get Vista if it was $10 from what I've heard of it. Awefully expensive for a product they can't stop from crashing.

Well for some people it might be usefull and for others will will just come installed on their new computer. As I see it there are only a few reasons for an XP user to upgrade.

If you are the sort of person who has money to throw at graphics cards then you will need Vista to use the DirectX 10 functionality of the card. Vista will also be usefull if you like to buy media that uses DRM.

I have a friend who installed the Beta 2 release and he was not exactly impressed by it. I played with it for a bit and I found that the Aero UI did not add much to my productivity and the User Account Protection was slightly anoying after a while. You can bet that there will be lots of people who upgrage just for the fancy UI, but for me that is definatly not the case.

In a way i think it will be like Windows ME was to Windows 98. I am not refering to the stability but to the fact that windows ME was nothing special for a windows 98 user. If you were a windows 95 user then ME might have been a good upgrade. I think that most people can live without Vista. I personally will probably stick with Windows XP. If i need a newer OS in a few years I might migrate to Linux.

Well, they were accidentally posted on Microsoft's site, so there's a very good chance that they're legitimate.

I hate how MS is forcing everyone to upgrade by making DX10 Vista only. It's totally forcing gamers to upgrade. I like XP, it has always worked very well on all of my PC's, but Vista is HUGE, and complete crap software. Of course, I'll have to get a copy just so I can continue to game. It's just complete market rape.
