What do you think?

In my game that I am currently doing, there is a H-WING, a Y-WING, and an X-WING-oid modell, what do you think, is this violation of the copyright, and should I make different models for my game?

Look at the screenshots : www.freewebs.com/lesliect6

There'll probably be a license of the model somewhere. I don't know what model you mean btw, could you give a direct link to the screenshot?

Actually, a technical forum isn't really the place to solicit legal advice. Copyright violation isn't a simple thing requiring that duplication is a factor. Heavily or obviously derivative is often enough. In the absence of professional advice, you might ask yourself the simple question: is this my creation?

I would suggest that since you think someone here is going to recognize a source that is not you, you may have answered your own question.

You also have to decide for yourself whether or not it matters if you're ever caught.

Well, a Y-WING is an obvious derivative of a Star Wars model...

You might be surprised who's deriving from whom. If it were me, I'd google experimental military aircraft and derive my own models from that, giving rational thought to the need for aerodynamicism and lifting and manipulative surfaces. Many of the science-fiction writers of the techno-reality variety (not the BEM variety) derived semi-plausible forms of transportation and warfare.

First of all, are these proxy models? Because what I saw in the screen shot resembles an x-wing about as much as a yugo resembles a Ferrari (no offense)

I think it depends on how closely your final models will resemble the x and y wing look, not just configuration, for instance a bi-plane is a bi-plane yet you can have different styles of bi-planes like the Arado AR or the HS132 or the Gloster Gladiator, so by X and Y wing you are only referring to wing configuration, though if you actually name them X-wing and Y-wing or they are close to identical copies then you should seek legal aid now.

I am no copyright lawyer, but as a creative person you tend to pick up on a few things.
