Ruby guides/References list

Ever since I found the Ruby language (about 3 weeks ago :p ), I have loved everything I have seen. I'd really love to see the interest in Ruby expand.

Here are a collection of websites and tutorials that I have found useful. Feel free to add to it.

  • Poignant Guide ( http://poignantguide.net/ruby/ ) -- Geared toward the new programmer, this is one of the most quirky and weird tutorial book I have ever read. Entirely free, and the writing is very clever.
  • Try Ruby in your browser! ( http://tryruby.hobix.com/ ) -- I don't know anything about web-programming, but I think he linked the interpreter with javascript. Try out the basic language constructs and follow the fun lessons that are pre-set. This page is just cool.
  • Ruby-Doc ( http://ruby-doc.org ) -- According to IRC, this is the most frequently used documentation source. All classes are well documented.
  • Programming Ruby: The Pragmatic Programmer's Guide (http://www.ruby-doc.org/docs/ProgrammingRuby/ ) -- This is a free version of the first edition of the book. The second edition can be bought on Amazon. An excellent introduction for the previous programmer. This book really demonstrates what is possible in Ruby and includes its own reference.
  • #ruby-lang on Freenode -- The main IRC channel. Though I'm relatively new to it, apparently the language creator and other important people hang around.

Hope that helps the process of exploring Ruby!

I've been wanting to mess around with Ruby for a while. I even started too once, but something came up and I dropped it. I'm definitely looking forward to getting into it again. Thanks for the link!
