Football (Soccer) Management Simulation

Using Visual Basic 6 I am planning to create my first major program ... a football simuation game.

At first, I'm planning on having a decent structure in place with the basics of the game covered. Once that is complete, I will venture in and add in more complex features, such as a 2D match engine, player training, managers can transfer clubs, managers have ratings to determine which clubs would want them and such features.

I will be kicking things off today by creating the manager profile screen and will see if I advance any further.

I'll try to update this regualrly and let you all know whats happening. I expect I'll be asking questions along the way too, this being my first major program.

Any useful feedback would be nice too.

Here I go ...

I've just come back from some studying and completed the original page. I can't help but feel, however, that the code could be clearer ... it makes sense to me though, and after trial testing, everything seems to run smoothly.

I'm going to be breaking down this project into little sections and then combining them and I'm still learning about databases so until I've fully understood it, I'm a bit limitted. There are some things I can get to work on though, and next on the agenda, I think, I might try and look at developing a contract negotiating system.

Looks like fun. BTW, when you say "football", do you mean "football" or "that game you play with your hands that's called football"?

By football I mean football as in proper football. The game the English invented. Some of you may refer to it a soccer.

Ah... so you're making a Footie Manager copy (without the uberness, I'm guessing, as this is a first attempt). Post it up somewhere when you get a chance - I can provide webspace if you need it.

Definately, I don't think it will be ready too soon though, I'm still working on player contracts.

Cool, I'll bear that in mind when I get to that stage. At the moment I'm still encountering problems with the contracts. I don't want to rush into anything else until I'm satisfied with how contracts are.

I'm actually on a bit of a detour with the project helping someone else with a similar contract system, but hopefully I'll get back to my management game soon.

Just to update, I'm making the transition of using C++ to make this game as opposed to VB6, in the long run, it will prove more beneficial to learn C++ I think. By no means is this project finished, just temporarily on hold for some weeks while I focus on enhancing my programming ability.
