I bought Sams Learn C in 21 Days, and i'm satisfied. They teach from beginner to ~intermidiate i would say, reaching the expert level is in your own hands after. They teach some good programming techniques opposed to only syntax.

But I don't know about you or anyone else, but it took me more than 21 days to read the whole book :p

But your book is learning it in 24 hours, so I assume it covers only syntax. It'll teach you how to use loops and conditionals and other stuff in C++, but then you should learn how to put them to use .

Thats nothing. I got Sams learn C++ in 24 minutes.

Its great. The book assumes no previous programming experience and that you read really really fast.

There "Learn PHP in 24 hours" was neat. I won't knock on there C++, though I'll stick with saying "people learning C++ should check out cpluplus.com" Pretty well structured beginners guide, it does more than show the code, it also shows the point behind what you were doing... something sams doesn't seem to fully do.

yeah dont buy the learn in 10 min book. its not bad but it really doesnt go into anything. I have the C++ in 10 mins and it goes thru creating a calculator and by the end of the book its a pretty complex calculator. Each chapter is expected to take 10 mins to go thru but if you need more info about the language which im guessing you might you picked a good one

Well, God knows how I'm not the best person to actually give advise about this, but a while ago (a couple of months) I was looking for a nice programming book to help me start. First I googled around and I found this very, very good article by this guy, Peter Norvig.

It's called Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years, and maybe you should take a look at it.

In anycase that book might be a good starting point, but I hope this post helps in anyway!

Cheers!
