Compiler Download?

Hey guys (sorry I haven't posted in a while),

Anyway, I was just wondering if it is possible to compile a C# Program without paying for Visual .NET etc. Is there a download that you can get that installs the .NET Framework on your system and the C# compiler? I'm only young and I don't yet have the money to by one yet, plus I'm lookiang forward to compiling ne of my first "home-made" programs.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Haz

Quick clarification, you need to download the .NET stuff from microsoft (free), SharpDevelop is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for .NET which makes it easier, but you still need the .NET Framework from microsoft as that is what contains the complier and such.

I would also like to point out that you can receive the free trial/beta version of Visual Studio 2005 from Microsoft, if you want to try something else.

Hmm, I tried downlaoding the .NET Framework (1.1), so I went on to microsoft.com, but it says stuff about not being able to connect to the server etc. What is wrong? :-S

.NET Framework 1.1 -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

.NET Framework 1.1 SDK -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I recommend you get all of those you need the framework, and serivce pack and the SDK comes with some very useful documentation on the .NET framework.
