Hey everyone.

I just wanted to throw this out there, but I was wondering if it would be possible to add a Linux subform to PFO? I'm sure other forum members here use Linux here and it would be a great resource to exchange ideas and such.

At this time, I really don't want to go down this road. My other site, DaniWeb, started solely as a programming resource very much like PFO is now. Then once upon a time there was this same request and a Linux forum was formed. Then a Windows forum for Windows/.NET developers. Linux and Windows-related technical support questions soon followed in these existing forums. Over time, DaniWeb grew to a giant resource of 100+ categories and subcategories.

I have serious doubts about going down the exact same road all over again. While it's a good suggestion because it obviously worked out very well for DaniWeb, it is not in line with what I envision PFO to be. My current goals and visions for PFO revolve around being a superset / extension of DaniWeb's software and web development categories with a more hardcore atmosphere and culture. It wouldn't make sense for me to create a DaniWeb version two, taking the same path with my second website as I did with my first three years earlier.

I will have to give this idea much more thought though. I definitely understand the concept of a Linux forum on a programming website but it is a very blurry line from Linux development questions to more general Linux related questions to an even more general Linux support forum. And with .NET catching on, it would be difficult to not eventually follow suit with a Windows forum. Doing so just doesn't make sense for me considering my current vision for PFO.

My vote goes with you, csgal, for all the same reasons. I'm sure everyone else agrees with those reasons too.

Yeah, that does make sense, since people will want a Windows forum etc. as you mentioned, and PFO is more centered around developing and not a general computer forum.
