having troubles how to code
Hi there, my name is Aaron and im from Ireland. Im having difficulties. my mother works as a teacher and is trying to find some solutions. she is starting a website where initially people can come together to learn a language. I know its a task but i would like to possibly learn something from this as im new to coding.
thankyou very much for taking the time. Title: Interactive Language Website Aims: An interactive web 2.0 site which facilitates people coming together to interactively teach and learn each others language. Project Description: An interactive website where anyone can come together to learn a language and in the process, depending on how long they maintain contact, they could also become friends. The website will have simple login process for registering users so that they can enter relevant personal details and their native speaking language along with other they know. User’s can see other user’s profiles to see if they are compatible and want to learn each others languages. Interaction of a webcam and audio will be added to the site. I need some sort of live chat. Possible Hardware and Software Required: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Dreamweaver, Possibly MS Access/.ASP. thankyou |

Re: having troubles how to code
I'd suggest that if you're new to programming, you're not going to be able to build a site like this yourself. It isn't a huge project, but there's a lot of background to cover before you can even start.
To me this sounds like a MySQL/PHP project; it doesn't sound like you already have ASP experience so I'd suggest taking the MySQL/PHP approach (all the software involved is free that way). Definitely don't use an Access database as the backend for a website - I've heard of some people doing this and I couldn't believe it to be honest. Apache on Linux is the major web server platform, don't bother messing around with IIS on Windows. If you've all the time in the world and don't mind a bit of a learning curve you could pick up the necessary technologies and get this up and running eventually. A decent starting point (whether or not you're taking my technology recommendation) would be http://www.w3schools.com/ - some decent and approachable introductory tutorials there you might find useful.
