C++ Networking
I want to learn how to use C++ to communicate over networks. I wanted to know where would you suggest I get started. Like which libraries are needed and which books I need and links to tutorials/pdf documents etc.

I would suggest that you Google for "Beej". Networking is not a part of the language, for obvious reasons. It's strictly implementation dependent. Beej discusses *nix implementations, but his material is very transportable to Windows machines if you check MSDN for sockets stuff.
If you're dealing from scratch, as in an embedded kind of project, you're just going to have to learn things you don't want to spend time on, and do it yourself. The bare microprocessor doesn't know chit. Pray for thousands of lines of code that you can invoke with a couple of lines.

Thanks, I will take a look at. Any ideas for good open source projects that use the basics of sockets?

I have a few programs that I made when I started network programming a while back. They are very basic and easy to follow, I think there is a simple chat program, a TCP server, and something else that I cant remember at the moment. I can give you the code if you would like.

That would be great. Now that I have looked at wxWidgets though it seems it has it's own networking functions built in. I think I might end up using those.

The Beej tutorials on networking are fairly informative... be sure to read them as DaWei has suggested.
