Question A COBOL career?

I was looking at jobs the other day in programming and found a company willing to take you on as a mainframe programmer and teach you COBOL.
It looks good and I have a progammer friend who does COBOL in another company as well (he seems happy about it).
My question is: Is it worth going into a COBOL career these days and get into this niche position in the programming world?
