USB drive not being detected
So I just bought this USB Drive (K-Byte) and stuck it in my computer, and Windows decided not to recognize it, so I proceeded to give it a drive letter through the MMC (Microsoft Management Console). And that worked but it still didnt show up in My Computer but I can access it through CMD. So then I went to my laptop to see if it would detect it and sure enough Windows picked it up and added it to My Computer (on the laptop). So I go back to the other computer and try it again, and now it's unrecognized again, even though I put it in the same slot and already assigned it through MMC. So now every time i want to access it I have to repeat those steps (assign it new drive letter, goto cmd access it).
Annywho is there some sort of software that will fix this (without reinstalling Windows)? I've tried google and they give obvious answers I've already tried, like download drivers, which K-Byte dosent have, and restart Windows, etc. Any suggestions?

What version of windows? You might need to go and get the drivers for the drive and then it would work

I don't know what the problem would be. You could try voodoo troubleshooting (e.g. different USB port). It's odd that one computer would read it while the other wouldn't. My desktop occasionally will (somehow) suddenly not be able to read my external hard drive, but restarting always worked as a temp fix. ![]() |

I have Windows XP Pro, and all the drivers are for 98, Windows knows its there(once I set a drive letter for it), it just wont "officially" recognize it is what I'm saying, I can access it, its just a hassle.
