Sites That do not Pass on PR
I've heard that some sites, which themsleves have high PR, do not pass on any PR to sites they link to. Not because of anything the site owner does, but because Google blocks the site from passing on PR. An example I heard of was a PR10 statistics site.
Does Google prevent some sites from passing on PR in this way (I'm referring to sites that have high PR themselves, not sites that are banned or anything)? If this does happen how can I identify such a site when buying text links? Thanks!

not sure what you mean by PR. you mean like ranking in search results? or are you talking about text ads?

I assume he means PageRank, Google's somewhat secretive but fairly effective method of ranking pages. Generally speaking, Google rates links from high PageRanked sites higher than others, so if you had a link from say, news.bbc.co.uk, then your website would be higher on the search engines than someone who only had a link from someunknownsite.com.
The problem with this is that it is far from foolproof, and Google has to keep a look out for linkfarms (artifically created groups of sites all linked together to inflate their individual rankings) and other such sites that, intentionally or accidentally, might bias Google's search results. However, only Google knows for sure how its PageRank system works, and whilst some of its workings can be inferred, I don't think there's a way to answer Boston30's question without getting a text link and watching the PageRanking. Indeed, that's rather the whole point; Google isn't going to go out of its way to make life easy for people who wish to inflate their ranking. |

if your interested in gaining page rank etc, you might want to check out:
http://www.rorweb.com/ here's what ROR is: ROR (Resources of a Resource) is a rapidly growing independant XML format for describing any object of your content in a generic fashion, so any search engine can better understand that content. RORweb.com is the official ROR website. btw, you sig is against our forum rules, your not allowed to have links in your sig that give you (or a company) profit. Please change them.

In all reality PR don't mean much at all. Really its hard to say that PR really even helps in the serps. I think if you want more info on this you might be better off find a forum that is more geared toward webmasters.
