Dependency Hell

Dependency Hell... I was warned! But i went for it anyway! I want niswrapper.. i NEED ndiswrapper. Well 50 dependencies later i FINALLY get the main ones that ndisgtk needed (ndiswrapper was already installed). Anyway so all dependencies are installed and so is ndiswrapper & ndisgtk. Well it doesn't open? It did on my ubuntu manchine.. but now im on kubuntu could this be causing it? or am i doing something wrong ?

I knew Ubuntu and kubuntu were crappy distros, but I still assumed they would have a package manager that woud install ndiswrapper and all the dependencies very easy. With Fedora Core 4 or Debian, you would only need to type 1 line into the command line and it would install ndiswrapper and all the Dependencies for you using that distro's package manager.

He doesn't have internet access on the computer on which he's installing Linux.

They *do.* It's called apt-get.

Run it from a terminal. It should give you some error messages, at the very least, before terminating.

There's little point in asking for help with a problem, if you provide no information on it.

I'm assuming you're following this wiki guide. You will have got up to section 2.2.2.3 (Loading the new driver module) and you will doubtless be able to give us an appropriate extract of /var/log/messages, or be able to give us the output of ifconfig once the drivers are loaded.

If you haven't been following the guide, for goodness sakes consult that before posting here. And if you have, then at the very least give us some relevant information on the problem.

Ubuntu uses the same packaging system as Debian: apt. FC4 uses yum as a packaging system, which is horribly slow compared to apt. FC5 is meant to improve on that, however, bringing up yum to a relatively decent speed, or so I hear.

Kilo's problem is that he doesn't have access to the net. That said, I would have thought that a good number of packages would be on the install CD. They were under Ubuntu 5.04, at least.
