I just wiped my PC and so decided it was a good time to put Linux on too (I'd been planning to for a couple of years).
I chose Ubuntu and have found it incredibly easy. I am completly new to Linux but I would rec Ubuntu for sheer ease.

There have been several topics like yours already. One of which was started by me actually. Do some searching on the lounge.

im not really looking for the easiest type/version and not really the hardest either. I want to have to overcome at least some small obstacles so that i can learn about linux as i go.. just dropping an install and rebooting it far from what i am looking for. But thanks for the feedback it was much appreciated.
Sane: i did make search with no success.. not one topic return with any usefull information

Did you try...
PFO Thread: Which Linux version is the best? PFO Thread: Best Linux? PFO Thread: Linux Advice? PFO Thread: Fedora Core? PFO Thread: Which Version of Linux should I install? PFO Thread: Discussions about Fedora Core There were over ten other topics that I had ready to reference, including discussions on other distros. Featured were other people's references to google, and even other similar topics on PFO since it's been such a commonly asked question. Sorry I couldn't post those too, you've worn out my CTRL key. Glad to see you actually searched... ![]() |

From what I've seen it sort of encompasses all of linux. Most distros have their own logos though. Like a clover for SLAX, some weird head thing for GENTOO, a Dog for PUPPY LINUX, etc...
That is just an assumption from what I've seen. And by the way, I got those links by searching "distro". Linux distribution advice is a very frequently discussed topic. Yes. You have to do it all from the command line. It's a pain in the ass for inexperienced linux users. However, they may have a graphical/automated installation now. Not quite sure. I'm not a bugger when it comes to what I work on. |

Gentoo is only for very experienced Linux users, and it’s not even worth the effort. Try Fedora Core 5, it's the best distro by far IMO, and it's based off Redhat. It can be used by experienced Linux users and noobs.
