I used to Google Basic keywords and plug them in to try to code more efficiently/ lazily than the class taught set of code.

NOTE: this was a BASIC class with mostly freshmen.

I think it would be a good idea. Older languages are typically harder to use (which is why they get replaced), doing things the hard way is a good way to learn how to do it the easy way.
